Employer Child Care Navigator

Epic Colorado is one of the go-to partners for implementing employer-based child care solutions such as onsite daycare. Their lean team is inundated with requests from organizations seeking assistance, so they partnered with the US Chamber of Commerce and The Holding Co. to design a product to help American companies navigate the child care benefits landscape.

Employer Child Care Navigator is an assessment tool that gives organizations tailored suggestions based on their size, location, shift hours, and other operational nuances. It lays out all of the child care benefit options available to them in a way that makes it easy to see the pros and cons of each approach, in terms of employee benefit, brand benefit, investment, and implementation time.

While offering on-site care is the gold standard in terms of employer-based child care benefits, there is a minimum size requirement of an organization for it to be financially viable. But child care benefits exist for all companies, no matter the size, and the navigator tool encourages all organizations to become leaders in parent-friendly workplace cultures. The site also features a directory of experts and service vendors, case studies of all solution types, and a toolkit to guide organizations toward implementation.

I worked together with several product designers to create this site. Together we created the strategy algorithm for the assessment, in terms of what factors would influence what care solution results are shown. Through testing, we arrived at messaging that leads with the positive business outcomes while nudging employers toward their role in helping alleviate the child care crisis. Together we mapped the content and interaction design functionality across the pages. I designed the brand to be a minimal, easy to read container for dense information, featuring a highlight color pulled from the palettes of each of the partners, EPIC Colorado and the US Chamber of Commerce.

Employer Child Care Navigator launched in December 2024.
